Israel welcomed the deal and called it a “good day” for them.Meanwhile, Hamas asked Trump and the international community to urge Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to comply with the agreement.
So, what is the content of this first phase of the ceasefire?
In a post on Social Truth, Trump said the agreement included the release of all hostages from Gaza and the withdrawal of Israeli troops.
“All the hostages will be released immediately and Israel will withdraw troops to the agreed lines,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, Qatar as one of the mediators revealed a rough picture of this first phase. However, further details will be provided at a later date.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari said he was not much different from Trump regarding the first phase of the ceasefire.
“[Includes] the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, as well as the influx of aid. Details will be announced later,” said Al Ansari, quoted by Al Jazeera.
A Hamas official said it would exchange 20 living hostages for 2,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.
Reported by AFP, the prisoner exchange will take place within 72 hours of the implementation of the deal, which was also “agreed with Palestinian factions”.
In addition to the prisoner exchange, at least 400 trucks carrying humanitarian aid will also enter the Gaza Strip every day, during the first five days of the ceasefire. The distribution of aid will be increased in the following days.
“The agreement also provides for the immediate return of refugees from the southern Gaza Strip to Gaza City,” the Hamas official continued.
Even though they agreed to a cease-fire and all the hostages were returned, experts doubt that Israel will stop attacking Gaza.So far, Netanyahu has emphasized that he will continue to attack Gaza until Hamas disarms.
Since the aggression began on October 7 2023, more than 67 thousand Palestinian civilians have been killed and acute famine has worsened in the enclave.
