Donald Trump
which calls for the North Atlantic Defense Alliance (
Nato
) expelled the country from membership.
Trump suggested NATO drop Spain’s membership after Madrid insisted on refusing to increase military budget commitments or share by all members.

, a source from the Spanish government said on Friday (10/10), “Spain is a committed full member of NATO. And, Spain is meeting its capacity targets just like the United States.”
NATO, which consists of 32 member countries, has reached an agreement to increase its members’ obligations to increase the military budget for the defense alliance.
The planned budget increase is up to 5 percent.
However, Spain insisted it was reluctant to increase the budget as Trump asked other NATO members.Spain itself is recorded as the country with the smallest military budget expenditure.
The Spanish Prime Minister from the socialist party, Pedro Sanchez, must focus on spending on a number of important sectors rather than the security budget for NATO.
Trump then called on NATO to act to expel Spain from membership.
“There is still one more country left behind, that is Spain,” said Trump
“You have to start talking to Spain. They have no reason to do this, but that’s OK. Frankly, maybe you should kick them out of NATO,” Trump told the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, a new member of NATO.
