Swedish professor, Peter Wallensteen, who is an expert in international relations, told AFP that Trump might be able to get it next year if he succeeded in overcoming the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
“No, the winner this year is not Trump,” Wallensteen said.
He said Trump would not be able to match peace this year because Israel’s aggression in Gaza really ended.
“But it could be next year. At that time, dust will subside around its initiative, including the Gaza crisis,” he continued.
Nobel Peace Prize is an award given every year to figures who have extraordinary contributions in promoting world peace, such as efforts in diplomacy, conflict resolution, human rights, or weapons reduction.
This award was made based on the will of Alfred Nobel, an industrialist and inventor of Swedish dynamite who appointed Norway, who was still united with Sweden, to manage peace awards. He believes Norway is more neutral and independent in international affairs.
Therefore, the Nobel Peace Prize was given by the Nobel Norwegian Committee, consisting of five members appointed by the Norwegian parliament.Members are usually political figures, academics, and prominent community leaders.
Trump recently wanted to get this award. He claimed to have succeeded in resolving eight conflicts in the world during his second term as US president.
Trump to persuaded the dispute countries to propose he got the Nobel Peace Prize. Some countries that nominate Trump include Israel, Pakistan and Cambodia.
The Head of the Peace Research Institute of Oslo, Nina Graeger, said Trump’s efforts to reconcile conflicts in the world, especially in Gaza, in fact were not in accordance with the mandate of Alfred Nobel.
“We have witnessed policies that are actually contrary to the goals and mandates of Nobel, especially to promote international cooperation, brotherhood of nations, and weapons,” said Graeger.
For Graeger, Trump’s actions to resolve global conflicts are still far from what Alfred Nobel meant.
Moreover, the actions were carried out in line with their domestic policies that afflict US citizens.
Some of the policies are the withdrawal of US from international organizations and multilateral agreements, launching trade war on allies and American opponents, threats to seize Greenland from Denmark, the mobilization of national guard forces to US cities, as well as attacks on freedom of opinion on US campuses.
