Indonesia is expected to receive fighter jets

At first in the first semester in 2026, as part of the French -made fighter procurement contract that has been signed since 2022.
The first six units were scheduled to take place in stages, with three Rafale jets arrived between February and March 2026, and the remaining three before the middle of the year.
These combat aircraft are part of a strategic agreement between Indonesia and France in strengthening defense cooperation.
The Indonesian Ministry of Defense is now also reportedly in the midst of further discussions with the French side to possibly add between eight to 16 more Rafale units.
If realized, the total number of Rafale Indonesia fighter jets will reach 58 units, making Indonesia one of the largest Rafale operators outside Europe.
The Rafale aircraft that will be received by Indonesia includes the Rafale C variant (one seat) and Rafale B (two seats), with the F3R or F4 configuration.
This fighter jet can transport a variety of modern weapons such as Mica and Meteor air missiles, scalp cruising missiles, exocet anti-capal missiles, and AASM smart bombs.
With an operational range of up to 3,700 kilometers and the maximum speed of Mach 1.6, Rafale is able to carry a load of up to nine tons of weapons at 14 hanging points.
These aircraft are planned to replace the aging Hawk 100/200 fleet, as well as strengthen the presence of the Air Force at Pekanbaru Air Bases and Pontianak.
This step also reflects Indonesia’s strategy in diversifying defense equipment sources and reducing dependence on platforms from the United States and Russia.
